Karmic and Evolutionary Astrology: A Reading of the Soul

This article sets out my approach to karmic and evolutionary astrology: starting from lived experience, recurring patterns and everyday blocks, rather than a fixed narrative about past lives.

Karmic and Evolutionary Astrology: A Reading of the Soul
Reading

The word "karmic" is perhaps one of the most overused terms in spiritual language. Used so widely, it has come to suggest everything at once: past lives, invisible debts, predestined connections that seem reserved for a select few. These are rather convenient explanations, sometimes far removed from reality and our lived experience. Yet they still exert a magnetic pull, attracting or repelling us depending on what we project onto them.

The word intrigues and fascinates, even as it muddies the waters.

Yet karmic astrology, as I understand it, isn't about explaining our present existence through stories of supposed past incarnations. It doesn't seek to trap us in a kind of inevitability or reduce our experiences to unverifiable memories. Instead, it seeks to observe and identify patterns that repeat throughout our lives, along with the mechanisms we struggle to break free from. Those everyday blocks are what interest me. What keeps returning to be understood and transcended. And yes, what rises to the surface can sometimes seem to speak of an older memory, one that cannot always be explained by childhood, upbringing or personal experience.

This is where, for me, astrology becomes evolutionary.

Because it's no longer about searching for ready-made answers in a presumed past, but about starting with what is happening today and finding ways to change it for the better. Our blocks, recurring experiences and contradictions are areas of tension that bring our underlying strengths to light. Our frustrated impulses reveal our wounds, our fears or our unconscious loyalties. Above all, the birth chart points towards a direction. A movement. The possibility of growth. In itself, it is an invitation not to remain trapped in the persona we have become.

It's important to remember, however, that astrology doesn't condemn us. It doesn't send us towards an unchangeable destiny. The structures of the birth chart are not a prison, but a language. A symbolic language that can help us make sense of what we experience in everyday life.

The lunar nodes, Chiron, Lilith, retrograde planets, certain powerful aspects and karmic houses take on a particular significance here. Not because they can explain our entire journey on their own, but because they point to sensitive areas, shifts in awareness and places where growth is still possible.

If we accept the idea that the birth chart is a blueprint for incarnation, then astrology speaks above all of the soul.

Over the course of my readings, I began to feel that a key was missing, something that would allow me to go further. Something that reached beyond the obvious details of everyday life and made it possible to perceive the subtle vibration beneath the surface. One we are sometimes barely aware of, yet recognise almost instinctively when it rises into view.

From this exploration, the Ishtar Key was born.

The Ishtar Key (IK) builds upon traditional and karmic astrology, but on a subtler level. Where the birth chart reveals a structure, the IK seeks to uncover the seed waiting to germinate. Where certain planetary placements highlight the challenges we face, it seeks to capture what the soul radiates, carries within itself and strives to transcend in this lifetime.

It opens the way to a more intimate, more vibrational reading, sometimes a more unsettling one too. Because certain dynamics go beyond what the aspects of a birth chart can express, and can only truly be understood through the intensity of what we feel. It is from this perspective that I explore relationships. Those that shape us, stir us, challenge us or awaken us. Those that activate old wounds while revealing hidden potential.

Ultimately, karmic and evolutionary astrology, as I experience it, doesn't simply attempt to tell us who we are. It seeks to illuminate who we are becoming and to help us understand what, when the time comes, we will need to leave behind or change.

This is the spirit behind my approach: to offer a reading that goes beyond understanding, accompanying a journey that remains, at its heart, deeply intimate and personal.
