Astraema relies on the wonderful work of many developers and contributors who share their creations as open source or open access. This page pays tribute to them and gathers all the technical attributions required by their respective licenses.
🌌 Astrological calculations
Swiss Ephemeris™
The planetary positions, ephemerides and astronomical calculations used by Astraema are calculated with Swiss Ephemeris™ Professional Edition.
Astraema calls the Swiss Ephemeris library directly, without any third-party bridge. The interface connecting Astraema to this library was developed specifically for the site.
License: Swiss Ephemeris™ Professional License.
🌍 Geographic data
GeoNames
The city names, geographic coordinates and time zones used to calculate charts come from the GeoNames geographic database. Astraema keeps a local copy to respond instantly, and queries the online service when a place is not in it.
Data © GeoNames — used under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license.
OpenStreetMap & Nominatim
When GeoNames cannot find a place, Astraema also queries Nominatim, the geocoding service of OpenStreetMap.
Data © OpenStreetMap contributors — available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
tzdata (IANA Time Zone Database)
The time zones used to place a birth time rely on the
IANA Time Zone Database (tzdata), an open database maintained by
IANA. Accessed through Python's standard zoneinfo module.
Public domain — free to use.

🙏 Thanks
Astraema would not exist without the worldwide open source community. Every shared line of code, every open font, every open database is a gift that makes projects like this one possible.
Thank you to all the developers, designers, maintainers and contributors, named or anonymous, who make the web freer and more creative. ✨
